A two-day retirement conference celebrating D.N. Rodowick, Glenn A. Lloyd Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies, will take place May 13-14, 2022. A screening of his recent work will begin the festivities on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
dn rodowick presents a selection of experimental videos produced since his arrival at the University of Chicago in 2013. Many of these works are Chicago premieres, including Manifesto. (2020), Time Regained (Impatiently) (2020), and Dante in Hell (2016-2020). In contrast to his earlier, performative “walking” works, these videos present new areas of experimentation, which include the extreme alteration of temporal scales and movements, the internal layering of time intervals in the construction of “time pyramids, the composition of abstract soundscapes, the creative use of appropriated media, and poetic contrasts of image and text. As in his earlier works, rodowick maintains and reworks his ongoing interests in site specificity and architectural forms, the tension between figuration and abstraction, and the indiscernibility of stillness and movement.
