Biography

Patrick Fiorilli is a critic and theorist exploring the question, "How does a world emerge from language?" Surveying literature and media that foreground linguistic experimentation, he studies the relationships between language and the fictional, virtual, and actual worlds we experience and inhabit. Throughout his work, he mobilizes video games to develop ways of thinking about these relationships.

In addition to teaching in Media Arts and Design at the University of Chicago, Patrick is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Radio/Television/Film at Northwestern University. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Digital Media from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned a certification in Science and Technology Studies, and a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
